Welcome back to my blog, its been a long while since I posted here, I should be more regular on this and you can expect more robust discussion and write ups. I will be talking about my personal journey and not so personal stuffs also.
Introduction
In the cacophony of modern life, where notifications from different social media platforms buzz incessantly and deadlines of work to be done loom like storm clouds, there exists a quiet sanctuary - an elusive realm known as inner peace. It beckons to us, promising serenity, balance, and a refuge from life’s tempests. But what exactly is inner peace, and how can we find/embark on this soul-soothing quest? Let us set sail on our voyage in search of tranquility.
Defining Inner Peace
Inner peace is not a mere absence of conflict or external chaos. To me what gives a good picture of peace within is observing a duck gliding peacefully of a river. This gives an example of a state of being - an equilibrium that resides within us, independent of external circumstances. Let us unravel its essence:
Low-Arousal Positive Emotions: I like you to imagine a calm lake at dawn, its surface barely rippling. Similarly, inner peace is characterized by low-arousal positive emotions—gentle waves of contentment, tranquility, and serenity. Unlike the fleeting highs of exuberance or euphoria, these emotions emanate from within, resilient and enduring.
Balance and Equanimity: Inner peace thrives on balance. It is the art of navigating life’s currents without capsizing. Pleasures are savored without overexcitement, and pains are borne without despair. This evenness of temper guards against the dangers of extreme emotions, whether positive or negative. And this point happens to be sore point that best of us grapple.
1. Mindfulness: Anchoring Ourselves
To find inner peace, we must first anchor ourselves in the present moment. Mindfulness - the practice of nonjudgmental awareness - allows us to observe our thoughts and emotions without clinging to them. Getting to do this will take deliberate effort and practice. As we become attuned to our inner landscape, we discover hidden islands of calm.
2. Release and Let Go
All of us carry different baggage - grudges, regrets, and unmet expectations weighs us down. Learn to release them like paper boats into the river of time. Forgiveness, both for others and ourselves, should be becomes our compass.
3. Embrace Change
Life’s tides ebb and flow. Life is never a straight line. Change is our constant companion. When we accept this truth, we cease grasping at fleeting joys or resisting inevitable sorrows. We learn to dance with whatever music life is playing, finding solace in the rhythm of change.
4. Stillness Amid Chaos
Amid the clamor of daily existence, seek pockets of stillness. Whether it’s a quiet corner, a meditation cushion, or a sun-kissed park bench, allow silence to cradle your soul. In stillness, we hear whispers of eternity, and w can actually listen to the inner voice of our spirit.
5. Surrender Control
Our need to control outcomes often breeds anxiety. Release the illusion of control. Trust the river of life to carry you. Surrender to its currents, knowing that even in turbulence, there lies a deeper flow. I have learned over time that trusting and putting my affairs in the hands of the loving God further helps my inner peace.
Conclusion
As we sail through life’s tempests, let us remember that inner peace is not a distant shore, neither is it what to be longed for in the sweet by and by - it resides within us, its within our grasp and control. It should be the compass guiding us home, the lighthouse illuminating our path. So, my fellow voyagers, hoist your sails, embrace the winds of change, and seek the tranquil waters within. Enjoy peace!
